Linguistic faculty

One can speak about faculty much and with love…

Dr. Bavinova Irina Egorovna, associate professor leads the faculty. She was born in the family of employees in Kropotkin Krasnodar territory. Having finished the secondary school with gold medal, she worked as plaster-decorator in Siberia in Syrgyt of Tumensk territory. Since 1984 to 1990 she was a student of philological faculty of Moscow State University named after Lomonosov. She was a lecturer of chair of Russian language as foreign in the Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University, she has a great experience with students and probationers from Great Britain, USA, Germany, China, Canada and other countries. In 1997 she was conferred Ph.D degree (Philology). In 1995 she took three month courses in the Neinroyd University in Holland. Since 1997to 2002 she worked as a head of chair of foreign languages, a dean of Faculty of Translation of the North-Caucasus State Technical University. Since 2003 she has been a director of chair of foreign languages in the North-Caucasus Social Institute. In 2004 the rector of NCSI appointed her as the dean of Linguistic faculty. In 2000 she was attached to the rank of associate professor. She has about thirty science publications, more than ten methodical research works and programms. She was awarded the Diploma of Ministry of of RF for high-professional work and achievements in science. She has a son, a student of Moscow Physico-Technical Institute. She is interested in postmodernism in literature and painting.

Linguistic faculty is one of the oldest and the most prestigous in the NCSI. For twelve years of its existence, it has changed greatly: organization, structure, teaching staff and even former name (faculty of foreign languages) came to the past. One thing remains unchangeable is high quality of knowledge, which students get at the faculty that is a result of combined creative efforts of lectures and students. The faculty was founded in 1993, since the second year of NCSI establishment. Initially Dr. Serebryakova Svetlana Vasilevna., associate professor headed the chair of foreign languages in 1992, which realized general education programmes in foreign languages at all faculties. The first admission of students candidates was carried out in 1993.

The history of the Institute demonstrates stability, growth of prestige and authority of faculty at the market of educational services of town and region. In August 2000 in connection with expansion of the chair's work mainly providing the educational process in the field of foreign languages at specialized faculty, the chair of foreign languages in accordance with the new demands was renamed in the chair of linguistics and international communication. In 2004 the faculty was renamed in linguistic one.

Today, the linguistic faculty distinguished by stable positive dynamics has won authority in the North-Caucasus region and it offers various educational services.

Full-time department includes the following specialities:

022600 Theory and methods of teaching foreign languages and cultures. (Теория и методика обучения иностранным языкам и культурам)

Qualification: linguist, lecturer(studying languages: English, German, French)

Specialization: methods of teaching languages (English)in high educational institution.

The most probable places of work: comprehensive schools, lyceums, gymnasiums, colleges, institutions and universities, all educational institutions which need high-qualified specialists in the sphere of foreign languages teaching and bases of intercultural communication.

022900 Translation and theory of translation.

Qualification: linguist, translator (studying languages: English, German, French)

Specialization: oral/ written translation.

The most probable places of work: state enterprises, private firms, banks, tourist agencies ,institutions, which need the knowledge of foreign languages and skills of highly technological office work as chief assistant.

021500 Publishing and editing.

Qualification: specialist on printing books.

Specialization: editing of books, publishing management.

The most probable places of work: publishing houses, editorial staff of newspaper, magazines ,institutions of printing industry, enterprises on sale of literature, license organizations of publishing activities, sphere of economics and publishing management. "We are the best"-This phrase became the motto of the students at linguistic faculty not only in the process of acquiring knowledge, but also in extra-curricular activities.

The team KVN of the linguistic faculty is unquestionable winner of 2004, 2006.

The conducting of meetings of the English-speaking club at the faculty became a tradition. The chairman of the club is Dr. Dzhagraeva Milena Levonovna, associate professor. The students discuss various aspects of life, make reports in language at the meetings.

We have the Christmas holiday at the faculty in English, German, French where all our students participate. Traditionally we celebrate Saint Valentine's Day and Catholic Easter. Within these holidays students have an opportunity to improve their oral speech skills. in new creative forms ( scenes, competitions, songs, wall newspapers). Annual Olympiads in English, German and French languages in which the students of all faculties take part play an important role in the rise of motivations of educational and scientific activities. The Olympiad helps to choose the best students in various aspects of learning languages, stimulates students to follow the leaders. The winners of the Olympiad and other competitions are awarded encouraging prizes and diploma.

There is an annual competition of the best poetry translation at the faculty. The best translations are regularly published on the pages of the Institute newspaper.

We also have "The Days of health" at the faculty. Our students take an active part in different relay-races, games and tournaments. Under the leader-ship of experienced trainers the students of faculty participate in competitions in the united volleyball team of our institute.

It's a tradition of the faculty to participate in such institutional activities as "Studencheskaya Vesna" and "KVN", which were marked by diploma and valuable presents many times. Creativity of speciality

Our students are distinguished by their creative character and creative thinking, as learning foreign languages means professional acquaintance with culture, history, mentality and international traditions, that is with lingvo-cultural continuum of countries of studying languages. The outstanding German poet I.V.Gete marked: "Who doesn't know foreign languages, knows nothing about his own one". While studying foreign languages, our students get a chance to live the life of that nation and that country which language they chose to be their future profession.

It is quate a usual way to speak about teachers and students connecting with foreign languages, as about "Englishmen", "Germen", "French" emphasizing their professional prestige as experts, specialists and mediatirs of a given culture. The significant part of our educational paradigm is intercultural communication, the main components of which are not only profound knowledge, but also deep understanding and primarily tolerance towards other culture.

The Chair of Linguistics and Intercultural Communication

The chair is headed by Dr. Kotov Andrew Egorovich. From 1993 to 1998 A. Kotov was a student of the English and German languages Faculty in Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University. He began his teaching activity as a lecturer at the chair of Foreign languages in the North-Caucuses State Technical University. In 2003 he succeeded in obtaining Ph.D degree in the field of Philology. About 20 scientific and methodical publications belong to him. He took scientific probation in London English Academy in 2004.

The Chair of Linguistics and Intercultural Communication has high qualified and scientific potential. The teaching staff of the chair: professor Dubovskij J.A. (second Ph.D), Dr. Bavinova I.J., Dr. Kotov A.J., Dr. Dzhagraeva M.L., Dr.Lisenco I.I., Dr. Pereverseva I.V., Dr. Filippova E.V., Dr. Ledovskaya N.N., Dr. Vasileva L.V., Dr.Kolpachejeva O.J., Dr. Hitrova V.N.

One of the primary chair tendencies is improving the quality of education in linguistic specialities which is achieved by solving the following goals:

- growth of professional and scientific abilities in teaching staff;

- providing necessary educational and methodical literature;

- employment of advanced technologies;

- developing educational programme in all aspects;

- self-control work of the students

Young scholars - tutors are very creative in their approach to the teaching process of foreign languages and constant aspiration to professional growth.

Senior generation of the chair is very experienced in scientific, methodical and practical work. Many of them are awarded by Diploma of Ministry of Education RF for their professional work.

Since October, 2000 the laboratory of oral speech is funtioning. The laboratory has authentic technical means of teaching to develop abilities and practice skills, pronounciation, listening comprehension. The laboratory is entirely equipped by a videorecorder, authentic audio- and video-recordings, head-phones and so on.

The computer class is engaged in educational process and equipped by educational programmes in oral speech, grammar, phonetics and etc. Great attention is devoted to methodical supply with all activities that are indicated by syllabus. Thus, there are treaties concluded with our main partners in Stavropol: regional school for gifted children "Poisk", specialized school № 24, №1 with profound learning of English language.

The Chair of Philosophy and Theory of Culture

The Chair of Philosophy and Theory of Culture exists and works, directly connected with the history of the North-Caucasus Social Institute, established in 1992. Today the Chair of Philosophy and Theory of Culture is the most important scientific and methodical subdivision of the Institute. More than 80 per cent of doctors and high-qualified teachers of the chair elaborate elective courses in all socioeconomic disciplines. They introduce new training technologies within learning of personality development.

Activity of the chair scientists is not displayed only in their own participation in scientific meetings but also by drawing students to scientific work. Professors of the chair published a plenty of monographies. The most active students continue their study taking post-graduate course, including speciality 09.00.11- Social Philosophy.

The Chair of Linguistic and Intercultural Communication

This chair offers to extend the store of knowledge, increase competitive capacity on labour market and get second diploma of additional education.

Translator in the sphere of professional communication

- various opportunities for career development and job;

- activization of intercultural communication within professional and external economic activity;

- learning of foreign experience, its effective usage in national economy of Stavropol Territory.

The pledge of success in future work is the unique opportunity to receive knowledge in foreign languages for specific aims. The chair uses advanced methods of learning foreign languages worked out by Moscow State Linguistic University, Oxford and Cambridge Universities, Gete University, Sorbonne University.

The students who get this qualification are released from taking examination in foreign language in case of further study in the NCSI post-graduate courses.

Our concentration is teaching foreign languages for various purposes. We guarantee proficient education:

- linguistic courses (for beginners and advanced level)

- linguistic courses for going abroad

- linguistic courses for specific aims (economists, accountants, managers, secretary and so on)

- business English

- preparatory courses for school-leavers (those who prepare to enter the higher educational establishment)

The department of additional professional educational programmes also offers diverse short-term courses: User PC, 1C; Book-keeping 7.7 and etc.
